The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is proud to have once again been named one of Canada's Top 40 Research Hospitals by Research Infosource Inc.
SickKids earned second place on the annual top 40 list for overall research spending, remaining in the same spot as last year. The list examines research hospitals across the country and ranks them based on research spending and intensity.
SickKids also ranked first for hospital intensity (research spending as a percentage of total hospital spending) and second for researcher intensity (research spending per researcher) in the medium-sized hospital tier.
The list highlights the critical role hospitals play in fuelling Canada’s research discoveries. This is the seventh time since 2011 SickKids has received this award.
“Our Research Institute is one of the things that contributes to our success as an outstanding child care organization. Among other factors, our rankings are due to the exceptional researchers and their teams who continue to conduct breakthrough research that is advancing the health of children in Canada and globally,” says Dr. Michael Salter, Chief of Research, SickKids.
According to Research Infosource Inc, the total research spending for Canada’s top research hospitals, hospital networks and health authorities was nearly $2.53 billion in Fiscal 2016.
This list highlights the leadership role that Ontario research hospitals play in building a healthier, wealthier, smarter future for Ontario and Canada. Canada’s Fundamental Science Review, released earlier this year, will help us get there by providing a strong foundation and strategic vision for Canada’s science sector.
As Canada’s largest, hospital-based child health research institute, SickKids strives to achieve research excellence, driven by our vision of Healthier Children. A Better World. SickKids’ research programs cover the spectrum of child health from wellness and normal development to causes of diseases, diagnostics, treatments and therapies.
