Anica Bulic

Dr. Anica Bulic graduated from the University of Dublin, Trinity College School of Medicine in 2011. She then completed her paediatrics residency at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC, in 2014.

Dr. Bulic continued to do her paediatric cardiology and electrophysiology training at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. She joined the Division of Cardiology at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) as Associate Staff in Paediatric Cardiology and Electrophysiology in August 2018. 

Her research interests include pacing in single ventricle congenital heart disease  and Arrhythmias in paediatric heart failure.

Research

Dr. Bulic's current research interests lie in further understanding the effects of electrical dyssynchrony in congenital heart disease, from the protein expression level to clinical outcomes. In doing so, it may identify responders and non-responders to cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT), a valuable intervention we use to stabilize or improve heart function. In those that are CRT non-responders, AV nodal regeneration may serve as a viable novel biological therapeutic intervention. In collaboration with researchers at MARS, who are attempting to engineer stem-cell derived AV nodal cells, a future research interest of her's is devising a delivery mechanism to repopulate AV nodal cells as a therapy for either medical or post-surgical complete heart block.
