SickKids International
SickKids International (SKI) undertakes advisory and educational projects for international clients, guiding the way towards building sustainable, integrated programs that will enhance efficiencies in the delivery of care, and improve health outcomes for children around the world.
SKI leverages the extensive range of organizational skills, knowledge and interprofessional expertise across paediatric clinical care, education and research to provide customized solutions to the most unique and challenging health-care projects. SKI provides several services for international clients, including consultation and advisory, project management, technical assistance and support in several areas of focus specific to paediatrics.
Alongside our Canadian and international partners and clients (e.g. private and/or public healthcare organizations, national and foreign government agencies, universities and other institutions), we aim for improved access to high quality, patient-centered care around the globe.

Leveraging world-renowned expertise in clinical practice, education and research, we offer a full spectrum of customized solutions tailored to each international client. Operations management, clinical care, program development, education and training, research, and assessment are just a few areas we specialize in.
Our impact spans globally, providing support, unmatched expertise and key services to hospitals, research centres, and corporations throughout Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe and Middle East. Over 1,000 SickKids experts have been deployed abroad to provide onsite support and solutions to clients, adding value to a variety of international health-care organizations.
SickKids International has been providing SickKids resources around the world since 2006.
In 2006, an international strategy aligned with SickKids’ vision was developed to formalize the international presence SickKids had already established through its international fellowship program and other collaborations around the world.
As part of this strategy, the following programs were created:
- SickKids International (SKI) - focused on provision of consulting services for international health-care clients.
- Centre for Global Child Health - dedicated to improving the lives of children and their families in resource-poor environments.
- International Patient Program - coordinates access to world-class clinical care at SickKids for children from developing countries who are not able to receive the necessary complex care in their home countries.
Afterwards, SKI launched the International Learner Program in 2009, which currently sits under the International Education portfolio of the SickKids International Learning Institute, and in 2013, Global Child Health established itself as the Centre for Global Child Health.
SKI’s footprint has continued to cross borders and now includes projects in Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe and throughout the Middle East. Since launching SKI, over 1000 SickKids experts have been deployed abroad to provide onsite support and customized solutions to clients, adding value to a variety of international health-care organizations.
Today, SKI continues to evolve and provides a broad range of services to meet the diverse health-care needs of our international partners and clients. The relationships we have fostered with our international partners and clients have improved paediatric care and quality, benefiting children throughout the world. We continue to provide local expertise based on international standards, allowing children and their families to remain in their home countries to receive adequate care without disruption.

Dr. Mohamed Mohideen is a former fellow in Critical Care at SickKids. Through SickKids' partnership with TEDA International Cardiovascular Hospital (TICH) in Tianjin, China, Mohamed was appointed Director of TICH's intensive care unit, a role he has held since August 2018.
A shared vision: SickKids partners with Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Trust
On Wednesday, February 15, a strategic partnership between The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Trust (NMCHT) was celebrated in Johannesburg, South Africa. Signed in April 2016, this two-year partnership is supported through a C$2.5 million investment from the Government of Canada, through Global Affairs Canada.
